How to Find Your Correct Wig Size

Before beginning, flatten your hair. Use a cloth tape measure or string to ensure accuracy.
1. Measure Around Head: 2. Measure Front to Back: 3. Measure Ear to Ear:
Around Your Head Front to Back Ear to Ear
Starting at your natural hairline in front, follow your hairline to just above your ear. Measure around the back to the bend in your neck, just above your other ear, then around front to where you began.
Measure from your natural hairline in front, back over the crown to where your head meets the top of your neck.
Starting in front of one ear where your hairline ends, bring your tape measure or string up and over the crown to the front of your other ear.

Wig Sizes

Sizes Around the Head Front to Back Ear to Ear

The Velcro® tabs inside each wig adjust up to 1" larger or smaller for a secure fit.

Choose Your Wig Style

Which Wig is Best for You?
If your head size is smaller: When your head measures 21 inches or less around the forehead and back, you need a petite wig style that's exactly proportioned for the best fit.

If your head size is larger: When your head measures 23 inches or more around the forehead and back, you need a large wig style that's expertly designed to fit and flatter.

If you need quick, easy styling: All our wigs are ready to wear, but some are especially easy to style; just shake these styles and they bounce into perfect shape.

If you want a light weight wig or your hair is fine: You'll want a wig with less hair, for a more natural look. You need a style that gives full coverage with the least amount of hair - not overly thick and heavy. These wig styles are so lightweight and airy, you'll hardly know they're there.

If you want to try your color in a new style: It's easy to search wigs by color to see all of the wigs available in your favorite color. From blonde wigs to black wigs and all the shades in between!

If you wear eyeglasses: You can wear glasses with any of our fashion wigs, but open ear tabs make them even more comfortable!

If you have a shorter neck: Some of our wig styles are made without an extended neckline to provide a better fit and extra comfort for those with shorter necks.

If you have sensitive scalp: You'll want EXTRA comfort! Soothing velvet has been added to these wigs – inside the front rim, and at the neck and crown.

Preparing Your Wig for Wearing

1. Pre-styling
Remove the protective hair net from your wig. Give your wig a good shake to separate the fibers and “wake up” the preset styling.

2. Preparing
Brush your hair off your face at the top and sides. If your hair is long, use bobby pins to keep it off your face, back at the sides, and up at the nape. Many women use a wig liner to keep their hair in place.

3. Positioning
Hold your wig at the sides with the woven label in back. Place it at your natural hairline and slide it on from front to back. Adjust the wig as needed so the front edge is just over your natural hairline. Use the ear tabs to center your wig from left to right.

4. Customizing
Tuck in any stray hairs at the front, sides and nape. Now you’re ready for styling – see our styling tips!

Preparing Your Hair Piece for Wearing

1. Shake it
Give you hair piece a good shake to bring the style to life.

2. Place it
Place your hair piece wherever you want coverage or volume. Some women use two, even three pieces at once!.

3. Blend it
For the most natural look, blend the fibers from your hair piece with your own hair using a comb or your fingers.

• Gently brush out wig to remove any teasing or tangles and turn inside out.
• Soak it in lukewarm water using a wig shampoo for 3 to 5 minutes.
• Swish it gently, do not rub.
• After a thorough rinsing in cold water, turn the inside back in.

Conditioning
• After rinsing out shampoo, apply wig conditioner and simply follow drying instructions.

Drying
• Hang up or place wig on a wig stand and allow it to dry at room temperature.
• Do not comb or brush when wig is wet.
• When completely dry, simply brush or pick comb into desired style.

Caring for Your Human Hair Wig

Washing/Conditioning
• Soak in a mixture of mild shampoo and conditioner; use warm water only.
• Squeeze the shampoo/conditioner through the hair from top to bottom.
• Rinse with warm water.
• Gently blot hair with a towel.
• Comb wet hair from the bottom to the top using gentle downward strokes one section at a time. Never begin combing at the top or middle and always comb down.

Drying
• Allow wig to dry naturally.
• To restyle your human hair wig, you may use a blow dryer or curling iron on low heat setting or use warm heat or steam rollers.

Coloring and Cutting Your Wig

Using a color rinse on your wig will damage its fibers. If you’re considering cutting or thinning your wig, we recommend you look for a stylist who is experienced in cutting wigs.

* Once your wig has been cut or thinned, we cannot accept a return or honor an exchange.

How to Style Your Wig

General Wig Styling Tips
  • Don't try to get every hair perfectly in place. This can make your wig look "wiggy".
  • Use only fine quality wig brushes, combs and other styling accessories. They make styling easier and extend the life of your wig.
  • Don't be afraid to use hair mousse or gel to achieve a certain style.
  • Have fun experimenting with different looks!

Synthetic Wig Styles
  • Try the "shake and go" method. Many wig styles need only a good shake or finger styling and they're ready to wear.
  • For tight curly or ringlet styles give the wig a vigorous shake, then gently lift and separate the curls with a pick comb or your fingers. DO NOT BRUSH.
  • For wavy styles with loose curls brush lightly with a wig styling brush or pick comb using short, lifting strokes - just enough to relax the style.
  • For long curly styles use your fingers or a pick comb to gently lift and separate the curls. DO NOT BRUSH.
  • For straight styles brush in long, even, gentle strokes from the crown to the ends for a smooth, sleek look.
  • After each wearing, spray the ends of your wig with Paula Young® conditioner. Gently remove any tangles.
  • Never expose your wig to heated styling tools such as hair dryers and curling irons or other heat sources.

Human Hair Wig Styles
  • Always use a wide tooth or pick comb for curly styles and a wire brush for straight wig styles. Avoid standard brushes.
  • When brushing, start at the ends and gently work your way to the roots.
  • To spot-style, use electric rollers on a medium setting. Only hair directly in contact with the rollers will be set.
  • To completely restyle your human hair wig, we suggest taking it to your stylist. If you decide to restyle it yourself, please follow these guidelines:

    1. Place wig on wig stand. Use standard or electric rollers or pin curls. We recommend using end papers.

    2. Remove tangles with a wire brush or wide tooth comb.

    3. Pick up hair and wind on roller, smoothing ends as you go.

    4. Use medium setting with electric rollers or hair dryer. With hair dryer about 12" from wig, circulate heat evenly and continuously.

    5. Allow hair to cool before removing rollers or pin curls.

    6. Lightly brush or back-comb desired areas and spray with hair spray.

Storing Your Wig and Hair Piece

Use a wig stand to store your wig. It’s the best way to keep your wig from becoming tangled and soiled between wearing and it helps to maintain your wig’s style.
Store your wig in a place that’s clean and away from sources of high heat, dust, and excessive humidity.

Glossary of Wig Features

Below you'll find a glossary list of wig features and benefits that will be useful to you as you become more familiar with wigs.

Braids
From short layers with soft, straight ends - to long, lush face-framing layers which are hand-braided. Blend a bounty of long, hand-tied braids into your own hair!

Hand-tied hairlines
Wig fibers are tied to the front of the wig by hand for a more natural-looking hairline.

Monofilament Wigs
In monofilament wig styles, the wig fibers are hand-tied to a fine, poly-silk mesh, or monofilament base. This thin, breathable fabric allows skin color to show through for a natural-looking part. Versatile hand-tied fibers can be combed in any direction.

Open cap construction
This describes a wig cap designed without lace. Less material in the cap allows for greater air circulation and cool, all-day comfort. Note that this type of construction will also release heat faster in winter, so a hat or scarf in addition may be required for warm comfort.

Open ear tabs
If you wear glasses, look for wigs with open ear tabs, which allow you to wear glasses comfortably. Most of our wig styles feature open ear tabs.

SofTouch®
SofTouch® is a lightweight, non-allergenic, silicone-like gel material developed by medical professionals. The material gently cushions the scalp, allowing your wig to fit securely and comfortably, without tape or glue.

Thin wefting
Wig fibers are sewn to a thread base, creating what is called a weft of hair. Thin wefting means that a single layer of thread and fiber is used instead of two, resulting in a lighter, cooler wig.

Velcro® sizing adjustments
Many wigs feature tabs that allow customization to fit by adjusting the wig's circumference up to 1" larger or smaller.

Velvet comfort band
A soft velvet-like lining inside the front of a wig provides extra softness against the skin. Perfect for sensitive scalps.

WhisperLite® fiber
The lighter the wig, the more comfortable it feels! Many wigs feature our revolutionary WhisperLite fiber, which is softer, finer and half the width of traditional fiber, resulting in an exceptionally light and more natural-looking wig.

Wig Sizes
Many wigs come in multiple sizes, ranging from mini-petite to extra large - and WigShop.com carries the largest selection of sized wigs available. Sized wigs guarantee a perfect fit for the ultimate in comfort and security. The difference between a petite and an average or an average and a large is typically about 1".

Yaki Texture
The Yaki feature has a micro kink texture added to the hair strands to mimic African American hair.
